If you are a commercial or specialty underwriter who enjoys being in the market, building broker relationships and structuring deals, this role offers the chance to do more of that and less time being tied to a desk.

This is a senior Regional Development Underwriter position for someone who wants to work with brokers properly, write business and use commercial judgement. The office base is Manchester, but the role is far more about being out with brokers and clients where appropriate than sitting in the office for the sake of it.

The business has had strong results, which has created real confidence around appetite. They want to grow, they want to increase average premium, and they want an underwriter who can help them do that by identifying the right opportunities and converting them sensibly.

The opportunity

This is a visible, broker-facing role with a clear growth agenda across commercial and specialty business.

You will be expected to build and deepen broker relationships across the region, develop pipeline and help bring in larger, better-quality cases. This will suit someone who enjoys the front end of underwriting and wants to work in an environment where good business is backed by sensible decision-making.

Just as importantly, you will be reporting into an underwriting manager who understands how deals come together in the real world. This is not a culture of unnecessary blockers or endless internal referrals. They want experienced underwriters who can think commercially, trade well and bring in profitable business.

What the role looks like

* You will spend a large part of your time in front of brokers, and with clients where that helps move an opportunity forward.
* Manchester is the base, but the value in this role comes from market presence, relationship development and the ability to build momentum externally.
* Internally, you will work closely with colleagues across underwriting and trading, but this is not a role designed for someone who wants to stay behind the scenes. It is for an underwriter who wants to be known in the market, build trust with brokers and play a meaningful part in regional growth.

Responsibilities

* Develop and grow broker relationships across Manchester and the wider region
* Underwrite and trade on commercial and specialty risks with a focus on profitable growth
* Identify opportunities to increase average premium and improve case quality
* Build pipeline through regular broker meetings and strong market engagement
* Meet clients where appropriate to support deal progression and strengthen relationships
* Structure terms that work commercially while maintaining underwriting discipline
* Work with internal colleagues to convert opportunities and retain the right business
* Contribute to regional plans, broker development strategy and portfolio growth
