Baker Hughes is seeking a mechanical maintenance technician for - In-Line inspection (ILI) part of PPS to support our operations, the position is workshop based in Cramlington Northeast UK. We offer a very attractive compensation package for the role.

As a mechanical maintenance technician, you will be responsible


being a vital member of the PPS ILI team, the role is responsible for carrying out maintenance, preparation and mobilization of equipment to be field deployed. This includes ensuring that all equipment is fully maintained to the recognized standard as outlined in the relevant work instructions and method statements. Delivering tools and support equipment in field successfully is a key part of PPS ILI, ability to deliver on time reports to our customers around the world so they can ensure the safe operating of oil and gas pipelines.

Although the skills required to become a fully qualified maintenance technician in the Pipeline Inspection industry are developed over time, the ideal candidate for a maintenance technician is self-driven, persistent problem solver who has a high attention to detail and enjoys working to deadlines. This individual must be process oriented, as adherence to PPS ILI work instructions and industry standards, and should also be deeply committed to quality and maintain hydraulic, Pneumatic and mechanical support machinery

Key responsibilities may include: -

* Executing flawless project mobilizations with on‑time delivery while preparing, maintaining, and deploying in‑field mechanical inspection tools.
* Performing front‑line troubleshooting and ensuring all mechanical inspection equipment and support tools are fit for purpose.
* Working accurately to PPS drawings, bills of materials, and strict task‑based deadlines while considering budget requirements.
* Assisting in reducing in‑line inspection tool maintenance costs and identifying quality or productivity issues with actionable solutions.
* Supporting and participating in quality and productivity improvement initiatives across operations.
* Reporting progress effectively to all management levels and maintaining strong communication standards.
* Ensuring full compliance with EHS policies, contributing to EHS awareness, and supporting continuous safety improvements.

To be successful in this role it would be advantageous to have: -

* Hold essential academic qualifications including GCSEs (Maths, English, Science) and a recognized apprenticeship in a hands‑on mechanical discipline.
* Be fully trained and qualified in forklift operation (2.5t & 7.5t), overhead crane use, and lifting & slinging activities, with strong familiarity with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
* Demonstrate experience in mechanical maintenance roles with the ability to interpret and work confidently with engineering drawings.
* Possess strong HSE awareness, supported by past experience or relevant qualifications such as NEBOSH.
* Show enthusiasm, self‑motivation, a proactive approach, and a consistent eye for detail with the ability to lead and solve problems independently.
* Be able to work effectively unsupervised or as part of a team, displaying strong communication skills and reliability in task execution.
* Demonstrate good IT proficiency along with the ability to manage significant manual handling elements of the role.
* Exhibit thoroughness, accuracy, and a high standard of workmanship across tasks, ensuring operational efficiency and safety compliance.

Selection Process:

* Your application will be reviewed by the Recruiter. If you meet the role criteria, you will be invited to have an initial screening call with the Sourcer.
* If you are selected from the longlist, you will then be invited onsite at Baker Hughes in Cramlington for an initial interview.
* If you are successful after the initial interview, you will then be invited to the second stage interview onsite at Baker Hughes in Cramlington and spend time meeting the team.
* The successful candidates will then receive an offer and start mid-May 2026

Working Week:

* This is a full-time position, totaling 37 hours per week.
* Flexible start time are available, hrs, with the option for compressed hours depending on business needs and agreement with your line manager.
