Senior Project Manager - Complex Projects (Design + Commercial Focus)
Where you’re not just tracking projects… you’re controlling how they’re delivered.
This role sits at the point where design, programme and commercial decisions come together.
You won’t be sitting on the sidelines coordinating updates.
You will be the person:
* making sure design teams stay aligned with programme and cost
* challenging decisions when they don’t stack up commercially
* managing change properly… not just recording it
* keeping projects moving when complexity increases
What the role actually looks like…
You will take ownership of the design side of delivery across complex projects… ensuring that what’s being designed can actually be built, on time and within budget.
That means:
* Leading coordination across design teams
Working with architects, engineers and specialists to keep everything aligned
* Managing programme and progress
Knowing where the project really is… and stepping in when it drifts
* Handling change and risk
Understanding how design changes impact cost, programme and delivery
* Working within structured contract environments (NEC)
Raising Early Warnings, managing Compensation Events and ensuring proper governance
* Driving commercial awareness
Making sure design decisions are viable and don’t expose the project to unnecessary risk
* Acting as a key link between design, commercial and delivery teams
Who this tends to suit…
This role is ideal if you’re currently:
* A Project Manager or Design-focused PM
* Working within a consultancy or client-side team
* Already involved in design coordination, programme management or change control
And you are someone who:
* Understands how design decisions affect cost and delivery
* Is comfortable working within NEC contracts (or similar structured environments)
* Can confidently challenge, coordinate and drive teams forward
* Wants to step into a role with more ownership and accountability
