Accessibility Manager – Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games
Reporting directly to the Director of Sustainability for Trivandis delivery, the Accessibility Manager will lead the development and implementation of an inclusive accessibility strategy for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. This role ensures that every venue, service, and digital platform is designed and delivered to be inclusive and welcoming to people with disabilities and other access needs, including athletes, spectators, staff, and volunteers. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Games departments, venue operators, local authorities, and disability organisations to set and uphold best‑in‑class accessibility standards. This role requires an experienced professional, ideally with past Games, events and/or sporting event experience, alongside a commitment to delivering a world‑class visitor experience in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Working arrangements
The role will commence in the Organising Company’s Glasgow city centre office, with visits required to competition venues to fully deliver the responsibilities of the role. The location will transition to be based at a competition venue as we approach the Games. The role is contracted for 40 hours per week, with requirements to be in the office aligned to the Organising Company’s planned working pattern. All travel to the place of work is at the applicant’s own cost. During the Games operational period, shift patterns are likely to be required which could include weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Policy
* Develop and implement the Glasgow 2026 Accessibility and Inclusion Strategy in alignment with Games‑wide sustainability and legacy objectives.
* Advise leadership on accessibility compliance, legislation, and best practice (including the Equality Act 2010 and BS 8300 standards).
* Embed accessibility principles into all operational planning, including transport, accommodation, venues, technology, communications, and ceremonies.
Venue & Infrastructure Accessibility
* Conduct accessibility audits and reviews across all Games venues and overlay plans.
* Provide expert input on accessible design, wayfinding, seating, and crowd management.
* Collaborate with architects, venue teams, and event planners to deliver barrier‑free environments.
Digital & Communications Accessibility
* Ensure Games websites, mobile apps, ticketing systems, and digital content meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
* Support accessible communications, signage, and public information campaigns.
Stakeholder Engagement
* Engage with local and national disability organisations, advocacy groups, and accessibility experts.
* Act as the primary liaison between the Organising Company and the Accessibility Advisory Group.
* Build partnerships to enhance the Games accessibility legacy in Scotland.
Operational Delivery
* Support accessibility planning for athlete villages, transport networks, and spectator services.
* Develop accessibility training materials for staff and volunteers.
* Oversee accessibility operations during Games‑time, coordinating response teams and issue resolution.
Monitoring & Legacy
* Establish and track accessibility KPIs and reporting frameworks.
* Capture lessons learned to inform future major events and local community projects.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Essential
* Proven experience managing accessibility or inclusion programmes for major events, venues, or public infrastructure.
* Strong understanding of accessibility standards, legislation, and inclusive design principles.
* Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing stakeholder relationships.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and report‑writing skills.
* Passionate advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Desirable
* Experience working on international or multi‑sport events.
* Knowledge of accessible transport planning or spectator services.
* Lived experience of disability or strong engagement with the disability community.
* Familiarity with sustainability and legacy frameworks for major events.
