Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and proactive Qualified Advanced Practitioners who have the drive and tenacity to develop their professional scope of practice and clinical skills to join our team, and shape and develop continued high level effective and safe patient care in UHCW Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).

We will be accepting applications from those who are near completion of their Advanced Practice Qualification (completed 2 or more years of the MSc training programme). Please clearly state in your supporting evidence your anticipated completion date. We are advertising for 2 posts, 1x37.5 hours and 1x30Hours.

This is an exciting time to join and be part of an established and friendly team of practitioners and doctor's, with opportunities to develop skills and the role of the Advanced Practitioner. Successful applicants will be pivotal to supporting the development of Advanced Practice in the emergency surgical care setting.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job

We welcome qualified Advanced Practitioners who have a wide range of skills and experience working with adults and children in General Surgery and Urgent and Emergency care. We will support your career development and education and develop your leadership potential working in the urgent care environment, with opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in collaboration with the General Surgery team.

The post holder will be an experienced registered Advanced Practitioner who has completed a Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice and is able to demonstrate capability for the four pillars of advanced practice including an independent and supplementary prescribing qualification.

The post holder will need to be able to utilise a high level of skill and knowledge to support the managerial and clinical delivery of Advanced practice in the urgent care setting.

The Advanced practitioner must have the ability to make informed decisions within their scope of professional practice, involving patients and the public to ensure high standards of clinical care are delivered to agreed standards and ensure targets and objectives are met.

The Advanced Practitioner will demonstrate high level professional practice through face to face consultations, safe treatment, use of diagnostic skills and evaluation of care, using appropriate clinical management plans for patients in general surgery.

Job responsibilities

The Advanced Practitioner will have the opportunity to work within all areas of general surgery including colorectal, upper GI, HPB, Urology and Vascular.

Surgical ACP competencies will be expected to be completed within 12 months of appointment.
* o-ordinate the care of patients throughout their pathway with the multidisciplinary team and clinical services to ensure the effective management of this group of patients.
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with their professional regulatory body requirements.
* Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
* Lead and deliver clinical care, across a variety of settings, according to national and local guidelines ensuring delivery of evidence-based care and working towards the Trust vision of providing a World Class Service.
* Undertake an initial assessment to determine differential diagnosis, utilising advanced critical thinking and decision-making skills, deciding when necessary to refer to senior clinical colleagues.
* Act autonomously to assess, prioritise and provide expert clinical care which contributes to the patients treatment plan to ensure that optimum physical, psychological, and social care needs are met and ensures quality care.
* Request and interpret relevant investigations to facilitate the development of the patients management plan.
* Initiate the management of patients who are critically ill or deteriorating within scope of practice.
* Proactively refer to other clinicians (own or other services) depending upon patients needs to deliver care beyond your limitations and scope of practice.
* Proactively initiate treatment plans for patients requiring intervention and treatment ensuring ethically based considerations.
* Proactively identify, diagnose, and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing long term conditions.
* Undertake relevant clinical procedures to facilitate patient care within the service, supported by the appropriate training and supervision.
* Autonomously assess, diagnose, and have the legal authority to independently prescribe. As an independent prescriber, the ACP is responsible and accountable for the assessment of patients with undiagnosed or diagnosed conditions and for clinical management decisions.
