Tech Connect Group are recruiting for 6 Mechanical Design Engineers to join an innovative engineering team delivering Special Purpose Machine automation projects. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of mechanical design elements, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to complex engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture. Key Responsibilities Lead mechanical design activities on automation projects, ensuring integration with process, layout, simulation, and controls teams. Manage scope, timing, and resources for allocated tasks, reporting progress to senior engineers. Produce and review Functional Design Specifications, DFMEA, PFMEA, ergonomic studies, and FEA. Ensure compliance with customer and internal design standards, CAD management, and data storage protocols. Select components, liaise with suppliers, and gain technical approvals prior to manufacture. Host and participate in internal and customer design reviews. Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentor junior engineers, graduates, and apprentices. Provide design support to manufacturing, assembly, and site teams. Contribute design concepts for sales and new business enquiries. Knowledge & Skills Proficient in SolidWorks with strong understanding of precision automation, tooling, tolerances, materials, and surface finishes. Experienced in mechanical design across all project stages, from sales concepts to detailed release. Strong problem-solving abilities with a lessons-learned approach to resolving challenges. Background in Powertrain or Special Purpose Machine automation, with ability to lead complex designs and guide others. Commercial awareness of budgets and on-time delivery. Knowledge of British and international standards for industrial automation system design and installation.
