We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join the paediatric nursing team here at Cambridge University Hospital (CUH) as a Paediatric Oncology and Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).


Role Overview

You will be part of an established CNS team who provide specialist support, education, teaching and advice to patients, families and staff, both within the Primary Treatment Centre (PTC) here at CUH and throughout the East of England, including shared care hospitals. This role will also be part of a service that has expanded in order to offer a Bone Marrow Transplantation Service for Paediatrics here at CUH.

Your role will act as a key worker, ensuring smooth coordination of the child’s cancer journey throughout the whole treatment trajectory and beyond. Your involvement with the child and all members of the team involved in the care pathway will start at diagnosis and continue throughout the treatment period into follow up or transfer to other professional care teams if required.


Responsibilities

• Provide specialist clinical support within paediatric haematology and oncology at a senior nursing level.

• Interpret and implement protocols required for the child’s treatment.

• Work independently and manage a defined caseload of patients.

• Communicate effectively and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.

• Act as a key worker coordinating the child’s cancer journey from diagnosis to post‑treatment care.


Qualifications

The post holder needs to have extensive knowledge and experience of working within the field of Paediatric Haematology and Oncology. You must be able to work independently and manage a defined caseload of patients. Excellent communication skills are essential.


Employment Conditions

* Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have:
o applied for a Graduate visa
o or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment
o or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start
* For NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough based roles, all applicants from NHS Cambridgeshire and Peterborough who have identified that they are at risk of redundancy will be prioritised over those not at risk. However, interviews cannot be guaranteed.

* Interviews are due to be held in the week commencing 2 March 2026.
