Estimator - DFG (Disabled Facilities Grant) Adaptations

Reporting To: Contracts Manager / Commercial Manager
Salary: Competitive salary and package (£45,000-£60,000)
About the Role:
Think Recruitment are working seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to support the delivery of our DFG Adaptations Contract. This role plays a key part in assessing project costs for home adaptations that help vulnerable individuals live safely and independently in their homes. You will work closely with surveyors, occupational therapists, contract managers, and local authorities to provide accurate and competitive costings.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare accurate estimates and costings for adaptation works under the DFG scheme
Use a set schedule of rates to price jobs
Review architectural drawings, OT reports, and site surveys to determine project scope
Liaise with surveyors and technical teams to gather project-specific information
Work collaboratively with procurement and subcontractors to obtain up-to-date pricing
Ensure costings comply with contractual requirements and local authority frameworks
Support tendering processes and prepare submissions as required
Identify cost-saving opportunities and flag potential risks to the commercial team
Maintain records of pricing, cost breakdowns, and assumptions
Attend site visits where required to support the estimating process
Provide support on variations, value engineering, and post-tender clarificationsKey Requirements:
Proven experience as an Estimator in the construction or adaptations sector
Knowledge of DFG works, Part M, and other relevant building regs is highly desirable
Strong understanding of specifications, drawings, and scopes of work
Excellent numeracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Causeway, Conquest, Excel)
Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimations simultaneously
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Full UK driving licence (site visits may be required)Desirable Qualifications:
HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar
Experience working with local authorities or social housing providers
Familiarity with adaptations for mobility, access, and disability-related needs
