Metallurgist Role at BAE Systems
Provide metallurgical support to all functions, particularly Operations, Engineering, and the Supply Chain, during submarine build and commissioning. Offer support to submarine design engineering teams to ensure appropriate material selection and corrosion management. Support knowledge transfer within the Materials Technology department. Identify research areas, lead research activities, and author reports. Provide specialist metallurgical guidance to ensure investigations are processed and reported consistently and promptly. Review and maintain relevant Process Instructions, Workmanship Standards, and Operating Procedures. Communicate effectively within and outside the department regarding solutions and processes. Manage forging, casting, and metal forming processes.
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in metallurgy or materials science (BEng/BSc)
* Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy
* Experience with metal forming and processing
* Experience leading a team of metallurgists
* Experience developing metallurgical standards and procedures
* Knowledge of metallurgical testing methods
