As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support and work alongside the Practice Pharmacist ensuring the delivery of prescribing is safe, cost effective and efficient as well as ensuring there is little waste whilst maximising patient outcomes.
We are looking for someone who is a trained Pharmacy Technician and has previous experience working within a General Practice environment.
This is a permanent position for 37.5 hours per week (full time) working Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
The pharmacy technicianwill provide technical& administrative support to the Clinicians at the Goodinge Group Practice. Theywill support the care navigation team and GP's with queries around medicationsfrom patients and local pharmacies, facilitate the implementation of medicationchanges under the guidance of the clinical pharmacist and complete auditsaround patient safety in the prescribing of medication and present theinformation for sharing with the clinical team.
The role will alsoinclude training and development of practice administration to support improvedco-ordination and effective pharmacy administration within general practice,especially with relation to repeat prescribing systems and processes.

Main Dutiesand Responsibilities
Work with the GP's, Clinical Pharmacist and CareNavigation team in accordance with agreed practice prescribing procedures/guidelines
Process repeat medication requests, includingthe conversion of acute requests to repeat medications, and changing quantitiesof medicines.
Issuing prescriptions in line with agreed clinicalprotocols and within competency and as agreed with the clinical pharmacist
Update and maintain accurate patient medicationrecords on EMIS, including advice given and action taken
Medication Reconciliations post discharge andliaising with secondary care and community colleagues to ensure correct medicationsare continued following transfer of care
To assist with the development and review ofmedicines audits
Provide a contact for patients, clinicians,nursing team, admin staff, secondary care and community pharmacists withmedication queries
Ensure monitoring is up to date and accurateespecially for high risk drug]
Optimise medications and make cost effectiveswitches in line with local CCG medicines management guidance and in agreementwith the clinical
Support patients with their medication queries,general practice queries and refer to the clinical pharmacist as appropriate
Undertakemedication use reviews- scope and list of patients to be agreed with theclinical pharmacist
Participate in practice meetings, patientparticipation groups, and other meetings to improve engagement of the role ofpharmacy technician and to promote issues relevant to prescribing and medicinesoptimisation
Liaise with other pharmacy stakeholders e.g. MedicinesOptimisation team, community pharmacy, and hospital pharmacy teams.
Support the delivery of the Medicines Optimisationstrategy
Be responsible for the organisation, and planning of ownworkload to meet set deadlines
Undertake, participate and share the outcomes ofclinical audits to facilitate improvement and changes in practice
Work closely with the clinical pharmacist to ensure thatall major MHRA drug alerts, where appropriate and within levels of competence,are acted upon within practices over an appropriate time frame and to advise onany medication changes that occur as a result
Undertake training and development, to ensure therequired knowledge and skills for practice based work
Carry out other duties which are appropriate to the skillsand competencies of the post holder and grade of the post as the priorities ofthe service change
Establishand maintain effective working relationships with GP practices, CCG staff andother healthcare professionals/stakeholders across the interface
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Current GPhC registration
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Experience of working in a primary care environment (desirable)
* Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, or in hospital or community pharmacy

* Relevant advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of general practice and evidence based medicine
* Knowledge of the principles of medicines optimisation
* An appreciation of the NHS agenda and government targets

* Awareness of GP budget-management and funding systems to enable GP clinical pharmacist services to assist delivery of Federation and NHS priorities and requirements for financial balance and quality
