Job overview The Orthopaedic Oncology Fellow (ST3+) will be part of the Trauma & Orthopaedics resident team, undertaking acute oncology referrals, investigations, and surgical care with consultant supervision.
Key responsibilities
Receive and process acute oncology referrals as the orthopaedic medicine and clinical point of contact.
Liaise with oncology teams and coordinate investigations.
Work patients up for surgery and attend specialist theatre lists.
Arrange follow‑up and liaise with oncology.
Make referrals to Stanmore via EPIC referral software and communicate advice to relevant clinicians.
Attend BOOS calls.
Participate in the on‑call rota (1 in 11 with registrars) and engage in ward rounds, fracture and elective clinics, and operating lists.
Independently manage cases in the absence of a supervising consultant, under consultant supervision.
Contribute to audit, research, and training within the orthopaedic department.
Coordinate pre‑assessment of elective in‑patients and day‑case surgeries.
Qualifications
Full GMC registration.
ATLS certification.
MRCS.
Basic Surgical Skills (BSS).
Evidence of CT training progression.
Experience
CT experience managing trauma and elective orthopaedic patients.
Recent registrar‑level experience managing trauma and elective orthopaedic patients and on‑call duties.
Previous medical oncology experience (FY1/2 level).
Previous surgical oncology experience (CT level).
Applicants must hold appropriate UK professional registration and satisfy the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974/JG requirements. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required.
