About the role
As Financial Controller for Combe Grove you will oversee accounting and financial operations, ensuring strong control systems deliver commercial, timely and accurate financial information to all users in the business enabling appropriate monitoring and control. Ensuring that all financial and tax reporting is completed to a high standard and to agreed timelines.
You will also support the Managing Director on a day-to-day basis and ensure a client focussed culture with a strong emphasis on driving sales and profitability with managed cashflow. With a team of 2 direct reports you will be responsible for the month end process, manage budget and forecasting process and be responsible for payroll.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Financial
· Ensure that the purchase, sales, and nominal ledgers are closed off monthly according to an agreed timetable
· Ensure that all relevant balance sheet and P&L accounts are reconciled monthly and agreed to source data where appropriate
· Prepare detailed monthly management accounts to an agreed format and to an agreed timetable
· Prepare weekly cashflow reports including a rolling 12 month forecast
· Ensure that strong financial and commercial control systems exist, and maintain and improve these continually, in order to protect the charities assets and to minimise the risk of abuse and fraud
· Support the management team with best value contract negotiations, as required
· Work with the Managing Director and, with input from all the relevant management, to create an annual budget comprising integrated P&L, cashflow and balance sheet, together with quarterly updates
Commercial
· Share and explain financial information with the management team weekly and monthly, reporting on the sales position and driving activity accordingly
· Ensure continuous development and preparation of daily, weekly and monthly KPIs for each operating team and directly report back to the Managing Director and the Executive Team on results and exceptions
· Support all areas of the organisation in planning projects, clearly identifying the return on investment.
· With support from an external company, sign off the payroll payment and ensure all aspects of the payroll including PAYE is paid to HMRC in a timely manner and to reconcile the PAYE accounts
· Maintain central records of the organisations contracts and monitor renewal dates ensuring that best value is continuously achieved.
· Prepare periodic review of internal financial and other control systems as required.
I.T
· Experience and a strong interest in IT is essential to ensure that efficiencies are made where possible
· Take responsibility for the successful running of Combe Grove's IT systems and to lead on all matters relating to IT
· Develop and improve Combe Grove's IT systems in conjunction with the external systems support company
Leadership
· Be a proactive member of the Executive and Management Teams contributing to team meetings, collaborative projects and supporting colleagues where necessary.

· Provide effective finance team management and support to finance team members by carrying out a comprehensive induction, regular one to one meetings and training reviews

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
· Qualified accountant with experience as Financial Controller in S.M.E.'s
· Strong technical accounting skills
· Strong leadership skills
· Budgeting and Forecasting experience and strong financial analysis skills, identifying trends and providing insight and commentary
· Experience of procurement and managing suppliers and contracts
Desirable
· Experience of working in the health sector would be very helpful
