Job overview This post will work alongside the Senior Sister in Gynaecology Outpatients providing clinical advice, specialist skill, knowledge and expertise in gynaecology services. The post holder will initiate, develop, and maintain services in the assessment and management of women with complex endometriosis. The post holder will provide a specialist role within the gynaecology teams’ outpatient’s service provision as a clinical nurse specialist supporting nurse led gynaecology services and Consultant led Gynaecology Services, managing a caseload of patients, patient education and attending and presenting at Multi-disciplinary Team meetings. They will work as part of the MDT to support the gynaecology service. Advert The post holder will be part of the senior nursing leadership team within the gynaecology out patients department. They will work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team to coordinate care within the outpatients setting and ensure effective care planning and treatment for women within the service particularly supporting complex endometriosis cases within the enhanced recovery pathway. The individual will ensure the highest standards of nursing care and have an ability to lead and implement practice changes within the department. They will support the continuing professional development of the nursing team sharing expert knowledge and participating in research and education opportunities as they arise. A video about the Royal Surrey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R96pMboIYdo Detailed job description and main responsibilities · Work in collaboration with and as a partner within the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide nursing leadership in care of complex endometriosis across the hospital. · To interact with voluntary organisations to ensure women with complex endometriosis receive appropriate, prompt practical, emotional and psychological support. · Work with consultant gynaecologists and senior nursing leadership team to support the development of gynaecology services within the department · Manage the needs of own caseload. Plan, develop, and implement efficient and effective programmes of care for women on the enhanced recovery pathway. · Utilise effective communication skills to provide support and information women requiring care within the out patients gynaecology service. · Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care when required and demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills through nursing practice in line with national guidance. · Monitor and maintain standards of care, develop practice and formulate new evidence based policies/protocols where required. This may include writing guidelines and information for patients. · Act as an expert resource in the field of women’s health with familiarity with current clinical research protocols, assisting women with informed choice and increasing the effectiveness of the service. · Work with the Matron for Antenatal & Gynaecology services supporting effective management of the budget and development of the gynaecology out patient’s service using a cost effective approach. · Take an active part in Patient Safety, including incident investigation and providing learning and support to staff and women · Lead the identification and facilitation of clinical audits to promote clinical effectiveness, as part of the Trust’s/Directorate’s Clinical Governance Framework. Ensure that the findings are disseminated and good practice is shared across the Trust and wider Health Community. · Support the education and development of staff across the Women and Children’s division in gynaecology and endometriosis care · Support the diagnostic services in the benign gynaecology out patients including colposcopy and hysteroscopy service where required to maintain patient safety. · Carry out a range of assessments and consultations on patients appropriate under the Endometriosis pathway, within a clinical setting. · Convey complex and sensitive information (e.g. abnormal test results) in a comprehensible and empathic manner · Discuss all alternative treatment options and facilitate clinical management decisions. · Attend MDT meetings and progress actions as necessary. · Provide specialist advice to patients via both telephone and face to face discussion, some of which will require sensitive information, and will require emotional support. · Provide specialist advice and guidance to other clinic specialties and teams. · Use communication and clinical skills to support patients emotionally and physically to achieve their best outcomes. · Provide patient education and work to develop and implement support within focus group settings · Maintain a caseload of Endometriosis patients, ensuring all patient data is input and accurate for accreditation purposes · Have excellent record keeping standards and maintain records in accordance with the standards set by the Trust and the NMC · As a Band 7, provide leadership to enhance and manage the nurse-led service in the department. · Lead in the development of evidence – based patient care policies and procedures. Develop and contribute to clinical guidelines and protocols and lead the implementation process as required. · Provide specialist support to clinical teams in dealing with the complex needs of different client groups and when imparting or receiving sensitive, complex or contentious information. · Liaise closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure a co-ordinated approach to patient care. · Identify and implement innovative ways of working within the speciality. Promote and develop the use of evidence based practice to improve the outcomes of patient care. · Lead the development of a Trust wide health promotion /education strategy relevant to the specialist area of practice, making use of all available resources and support staff in the implementation of the strategy
