Job overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated pharmacist to provide highly specialised clinical pharmacy service across Critical care and Surgery at Whipps Cross Hospital.


Working within a supportive team that includes senior rotational and foundation pharmacists and with the guidance from the lead pharmacist for Surgery and Anaesthetics and the Deputy Head of Pharmacy, you will lead on the delivery of advanced clinical pharmacy services for these specialties, ensuring optimal medicines use, patient safety and cost-effective prescribing.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the site-lead pharmacist for Surgery & Critical Care at Whipps Cross University Hospital, with specialist cross site responsibility for Surgery & Critical care pharmacy services. The post holder will be the Trust lead pharmacist for Ophthalmology pharmacy services To promote the responsible, safe and cost-effective prescribing of medicines within the surgical speciality in order to optimise clinical outcomes, minimise adverse reactions and improve medicines safety.

Experience

Essential criteria

1. Significant experience post registration in a hospital based clinical post
2. Proven experience of good performance in previous posts
3. Experience of providing a hospital-based, clinical pharmacy service to Critical Care (level 2 & 3) patients
4. Previous evaluations or reviews of medicines
5. Experience of providing evaluated information on drug expenditure
6. Evidence of basic teaching and tutoring in a hospital setting through training others e.g. pre-registration / foundation training pharmacists
7. Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement and change projects.

Desirable criteria

8. Successful experience of managing & leading projects
9. Experience of successfully managing staff, performing appraisals and giving feedback

Knowledge

Essential criteria

25. Understanding of GPhC Revalidation requirements
26. Knowledge of medicines management systems at ward level
27. Up to date knowledge of legislation relevant to pharmacy practice, e.g. controlled drugs, Health and Safety at Work
28. Understanding of stock control systems
29. Excellent knowledge of the medical management and pharmaceutical care needs of Critical Care (level 2&3) and Surgical patients
30. An awareness of current national standards, guidelines and service delivery issues relevant to Critical Care and Surgery patients
31. Understanding of stock control systems
32. Knowledge of Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines requirements
33. Understanding of the importance of adherence to SOPs and legislation
34. Demonstrates a good understanding of patient safety initiatives

Desirable criteria

35. Knowledge of drug and therapeutics at Diploma level or equivalent

Qualifications

Essential criteria

36. MPharm or equivalent
37. Registered as a pharmacist with the GPhC
38. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy / Pharmacy Practice or equivalent
39. Independent prescribing qualification, or willing to work towards

Essential criteria

40. Reliable with a good attendance record Flexibility with regard to working hours for late and early meetings
41. Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS)
