An engineering company is seeking a Technical Sales & Costing Manager — a rare and strategic dual role at the intersection of commercial leadership and engineering expertise.
This is a pivotal position acting as the customer’s representative within the business, ensuring that client priorities are understood, championed, and delivered through effective cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will combine commercial acumen, technical understanding, and leadership capability to drive strong relationships, accurate costing, and profitable growth.
Responsibilities:
* Serve as the primary advocate for key customers, ensuring on-time delivery, quality performance, and satisfaction
* Lead commercial and technical discussions, balancing customer expectations with operational capability
* Manage and mentor a small Sales & Marketing team, ensuring consistent, professional engagement and effective CRM use
* Oversee mechanical costing and quotation activities, supported by skilled engineering and costing personnel to validate feasibility and pricing accuracy
* Play a key role in revenue forecasting, pipeline management, and business development alongside the senior leadership team (SLT)
* Drive cross-functional initiatives that align sales, engineering, and production to meet customer delivery commitments
* Represent the customer in weekly progress reviews, escalating issues, coordinating solutions, and maintaining a visible leadership presence
Experience Required:
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent), ideally with a time-served apprenticeship
* 5+ years’ experience in technical sales, account management, or costing within precision engineering or CNC machining
* Strong understanding of 5-axis machining, CNC processes, and engineering drawings
* Demonstrated success in customer relationship management, commercial negotiation, and cross-departmental coordination
* Experience leading a small team and managing customer projects through the full lifecycle
* Strong communicator — credible, structured, and engaging with both technical and commercial stakeholders
