Position
Principal Pharmacy Technician – GP Pharmacy Service, Ayrshire Central Hospital, Irvine. Fixed‑term 12 months / until March 2027.
Hours
30 hours per week (4 days). Core hours 08:30–16:30. From 1 April 2026, NHS Agenda for Change staff hours will reduce to 36 hours.
UK Driving Licence
A UK driving licence is essential for this role.
What You Will Do
* Provide day‑to‑day management for the Technical Team within Primary Care and Community Pharmacy Team, including staff recruitment and selection, resources, performance and delivery of specialist training team activity.
* Manage, develop and appraise the performance of the Technical Team in Primary Care.
* Support and facilitate delivery of strategic and operational prescribing priorities within GP practices in the Health and Social Care Partnership areas.
* Provide professional leadership for the Pharmacy Technician Team within Primary Care, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
* Lead the planning, development, monitoring, audit, evaluation and delivery of the technical aspects of the primary care pharmacy technician service, ensuring that work practices meet the requirements of medicines legislation, local and national guidelines, and implement changes to ensure delivery of a comprehensive, high‑quality service.
* Plan and coordinate training, experience and assessment of the Technical Team in Primary Care.
Essential Requirements
* S(N)VQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
* SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services or equivalent
* SQA Higher National Unit Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or community pharmacy equivalent, or able to demonstrate a highly specialised level of pharmacy knowledge, skills, clinical reasoning and judgement.
* HNC Pharmacy Services Development and Management or equivalent, or currently undertaking.
* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Substantial technical and pharmacy experience as a qualified pharmacy technician.
* Significant experience working within primary care, community or hospital as a pharmacy technician.
* Evidence of leading or managing staff or projects.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience in service provision and development.
Desirable Criteria
* Personal Development award – Assessment & Supply of Individual Patient’s Medicines (PDA) or working towards.
* Management qualification or relevant equivalent experience.
