Overview
Healthcare Science Support Worker – Band 2, with the POCT (Point of Care Testing) team. The closing date is 08 October 2025.
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust are partnering to provide a comprehensive Point of Care Testing service to their users. The Trusts comprise two sites each: The James Cook University Hospital (Middlesbrough) and the Friarage Hospital (Northallerton), approximately 22 miles apart; The University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool, approximately 15 miles apart. The successful candidate will be expected to work across both Trusts and all sites, including smaller community and primary care units.
Main duties of the job
The service manages multiple pieces of POCT equipment including Radiometer and Abbott blood gas analysers. The department is also responsible for glucose and ketone meters, rapid PCR instruments for Covid-19, Flu and RSV testing, urinalysis instruments, HbA1c testing instruments, and more.
Working under the direction of the POCT Coordinator, the post holder will assist in the day-to-day operation of POCT, maintain devices, troubleshoot problems as they arise, and provide advice and support to users.
The post holder must be able to work autonomously; both as part of a small team and on their own, with excellent organisational and communication skills. An aptitude for problem solving is essential, as is a flexible attitude to work and willingness to adapt to changes in working practice.

Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Mathematics (or equivalent e.g. Key Skills at level 2 in Numeracy) and English Language (or equivalent e.g. Key Skills at level 2 in Literacy) and a science subject, or Mathematics and English plus NVQ Level 2 or above in a relevant subject
