Join Balfour Beatty plc as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in the Commercial team on site, delivering a complex secure building and infrastructure project in Derby.
About The Role
Balfour Beatty has been selected as a construction partner for the Rolls Royce expansion work in Raynesway, Derby. This programme of works, executed over the next eight years, will deliver infrastructure enabling works, new manufacturing and office facilities, and redevelop existing industrial buildings on the site.
What you'll be doing
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will:
* Assist with managing all costs and income within the scope of responsibility.
* Work with a Senior QS during the pre‑construction stage for a large factory re‑configuration and construction.
* Continue with the Commercial Team through the construction stage of the project.
* Progress into commercial management of task orders relating to the construction works.
You Will Be Accountable For
* Governance
o Demonstrate good knowledge of and adherence to the company’s governance requirements.
* Commercial Administration & Management
o Gather data and carry out research on current construction costs.
o Measure, record and value work supervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures.
o Seek out, locate and assemble pre and post contract documentation.
o Maintain necessary administration skills.
o Understand and utilise weekly and monthly works programmes.
o Use the company’s ERP and digital systems.
o Collate cost and value information.
o Prepare cost reconciliation statements.
o Measure works and negotiate agreements with subcontractors.
* Procurement
o Assist the procurement function in procuring subcontractors.
Who we’re looking for
Essentials
* BSc in Quantity Surveying
* CSCS Card (Academically Qualified)
* Knowledge of the role of a QS
* Working towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB and maintaining CPD record.
Preferred Experience
* Experience of procuring and managing subcontract packages.
* Experience of NEC4 and the change management process (early warnings and compensation events).
* SC Security clearance preferable, minimum of BPSS (we can assist).
* Ideally experience of aspects of commercial management on major new build and refurbishment construction projects.
