Role Overview
Leadership: Learning & Development Manager (full‑time, 35 hours/week). The role is based at our Gosforth or Durham office, with occasional travel to other locations.
Responsibilities
* Lead the design and delivery of a strategic L&D framework that strengthens legal excellence, enhances leadership capability and supports career progression for lawyers and business services colleagues.
* Identify capability needs, anticipate future skills requirements and design learning strategies that align with regulatory and business priorities.
* Conduct annual and mid‑year training needs analyses across all teams using data, feedback and performance insights.
* Recommend evidence‑based solutions with blended learning approaches.
* Develop, implement and evaluate engaging learning interventions including workshops, coaching, e‑learning and knowledge sessions.
* Oversee the LMS, maintain training records, and report on learning outcomes and ROI.
* Ensure regulatory compliance, including SRA Continuing Competence obligations and early‑career training cycles.
* Provide coaching and guidance to managers on developing teams and supporting individual development plans.
* Collaboration: work closely with head office teams, build relationships across the firm and manage third‑party suppliers.
Qualifications
* Minimum five years’ experience in a senior L&D role within a professional services or legal environment.
* Strong understanding of legal career pathways, the SRA competence framework and regulatory training requirements.
* Proven experience designing and delivering high‑quality learning programmes with facilitation, coaching and presentation skills.
* Analytical ability to translate data insights into practical, measurable solutions; experience managing an LMS and modern learning technologies.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills with credibility to influence at all levels.
* Current CIPD Level 5+ (or equivalent) and preferably experience with leadership development programmes or organisational change initiatives.
* Highly organised, proactive, with strong project management skills and confidence to work independently.
