Smith School, School of Geography and the Environment, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QY The Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment (SSEE) is seeking to appoint a Director of Education to lead the development and delivery of our education strategy in support of the School’s mission and five-year plan. The post-holder will be responsible for developing and managing an overarching strategy of all aspects of education within SSEE, including the MSc in Sustainability, Enterprise and the Environment, executive education, online and professional courses, and the development of new programmes. The role will require strategic leadership, commercial acumen, and effective collaboration with academic and professional colleagues, external partners, and clients. Key responsibilities:
1. Develop and deliver an overarching strategy for SSEE’s education programmes.
2. Lead the growth and diversification of the portfolio, including new courses and formats.
3. Ensure financial sustainability through effective management and commercial decision-making.
4. Represent and promote SSEE’s education activities externally.
Essential criteria:
5. Experience in developing and managing education programmes in higher education, corporate, or professional contexts.
6. Proven ability to deliver strategy, manage budgets, and generate income.
7. Strong leadership, influencing, and project management skills.
8. Excellent communication and relationship management abilities.
The post is based in Oxford, with flexible working arrangements supported. This post is offered on a full-time basis and fixed term for 2 years. Extension may be possible depending on further funding.
