Job overview

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Burns anaesthesia to join our established team. The post will support the newly reconfigured Burns Centre and ongoing development of services as part of the COVID 19 recovery plan.

This post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will support the reconfiguration of the Burns Centre. The Burns Centre has been established for over 30 years and serves a population of 10m people from Aberystwyth to Oxford. It has a reputation for being one of the outstanding Burns centres in the UK. A recent major investment has allowed for the development of a new bespoke theatre and ITU area, providing excellent facilities and a sustainable model of working.

There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to undertake a variety of other subspecialty elective work through a number of flexible sessions.

The locum post will be primarily aligned to the General Anaesthetic service which will be based at Morriston Hospital but will include covering lists in the Centre of Excellence for Orthopaedics and Spinal at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and the Singleton Centre of Excellence for Planned Care.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of emergency and elective general anaesthesia to the population of SBUHB within scope of practice reflected in provisional ‘Job Plan’ (please see Job Description)

Out of hours work in the first instance will likely comprise of resident weekend CEPOD or MSK Trauma days (10- 12hrs) at a frequency no more than 1:8. Joining the ‘General on call’ rota will be considered, subject to service requirements.

As a locum job, a proposed job plan will be negotiated on successful appointment. We aim, but cannot guarantee, to provide a reasonable split of fixed and flexible working. This will be subject to service requirements and by the nature of the post is likely to encompass more flexible working than fixed.
