Location: University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham UK

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £46,735 to £55,755 with potential progression once in post to £62,728

Full time starting salary is normally in the range £57,422 to £66,537 with potential progression once in post to £86,760

Grade:8 or 9

Background

You will contribute at a senior level on a sustained basis to a whole range of teaching leadership and administration. In addition, you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.

You will contribute at a senior level to the full range of placement-related, teaching, research and administration duties on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate and, where appropriate, other courses deliver by the School of Psychology.

The Academic Tutor role on the ClinPsyD weighs more heavily towards the teaching, module organisation, marking and research supervision aspects of the ClinPsyD programme. Additionally, academic tutor post-holders will be involved in appraising trainees and take responsibility for developing and delivering specific aspects of training / teaching within the ClinPsyD to include the delivery of high-quality, research-intensive, inclusive teaching in their areas of specialty.

Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to: (a) the development, management, and leadership of module / sub-courses (including programme/module review), (b) delivery of teaching at postgraduate level; (c) marking of academic assignments; (d) enhancement of the student experience or employability; and (e) research supervision. The role will typically also involve developing and advising others, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students, and (b) developing and advising others on learning and teaching tasks, approaches, and methods.

Teaching focussed role-holders should advance and demonstrate leadership in the practice of teaching in their modules within the school, take a role in leading curriculum development, and play an important role in student academic and pastoral support. You will deliver excellent teaching that inspires students and is informed by discipline-based research and current clinical practice.

Role Summary

The role holder will be based in Edgbaston. The key duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to: giving lectures and seminars and supervising undergraduate / post-graduate students, course development and innovation, taking an active part in examinations, carrying out innovative research and writing papers on topics relevant to the specialist subject area (this will include journals, books and other material), and obtaining research grant funding.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant specialist subject area, as well as postdoctoral experience. We are looking for candidates who will actively contribute to our portfolio and community, through pursuit of research that will bring new opportunities, synergies, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The successful candidate will also have a track record in teaching at a higher education institution.
