Offer description

Grade UE07: £41,064 - £48,822 per annum Any appointment higher than Grade UE07 – Step 2 (£42,254 may result in reduced contract length) School of Regeneration and Repair / Centre for Regenerative Medicine Full-time: 35 hours per week Fixed-term: for 2 years Together we can do great things. Be part of something bigger. Join the University of Edinburgh and you’ll be making a difference to everything around you. Be part of something bigger – where you’ll do meaningful work, grow and progress, be rewarded and recognised, and benefit from our strong commitment to your wellbeing. There are so many reasons to join us. The University of Edinburgh is a world-class organisation. We look for the best in the field across all disciplines and provide a working environment where academics can develop their careers and passion for their chosen subject area. We are looking for people with drive, determination, and a passion for what they do. The Opportunity: Applications are invited for a postdoctoral scientist to join the MRC/BHF Centre of Research Excellence in Advanced Cardiac Therapies (REACT) at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair, University of Edinburgh. The postholder will be part of a vibrant multi-disciplinary research centre operating across King’s College London, University of Oxford and University of Edinburgh, having the overall aim to develop transformational therapies for cardiac repair and regeneration. Join us to engineer the next generation of gene therapies for cardiovascular disease. We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to join a collaborative project between the laboratories of Prof Steven Pollard and Prof Andy Baker, focused on developing next-generation viral vectors for cardiovascular gene therapy. In this role, you will explore and engineer novel AAV capsids to unlock more precise, efficient delivery to the heart. You will work at the cutting edge of vector design—evaluating newly developed engineered AAVs while also creating and testing your own variants tailored for cardiovascular injury and disease. This is a unique opportunity to bridge fundamental vector biology with real translational potential. You will deploy advanced molecular and cellular approaches across a range of relevant models, including primary rodent cardiomyocytes, human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, living myocardial slices, and in vivo mouse systems. We are looking for someone with a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, ideally with experience in cardiac models and/or viral gene therapy. Just as important is a genuine enthusiasm for gene therapy and regenerative medicine, and a drive to translate innovative science toward clinical impact. If you’re excited by the idea of building new biological tools and seeing them move toward real therapeutic applications, we’d love to hear from you. This post is full-time (35 hours per week).
