We are seeking caring, motivated and compassionate individuals to join our Dementia Assessment Unit within the Specialist Older Peoples Inpatient Services. This is a rewarding opportunity to support older adults living with dementia who require specialist assessment, therapeutic input, and person-centred care.
As a Health Care Support Worker, you will work under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals to deliver safe, high-quality, person-centred care. You will play a vital role in supporting patients during a period of assessment, helping them feel safe, valued, and understood at a time that can be confusing or distressing.
You will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team committed to promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing for every individual in our care.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre on 1st April 2026 at the Dementia Assessment Unit, Lynfield Mount Hospital. This is the only date available for interviews. Virtual interviews will not be offered.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
* Personal Care: Assist with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and emotional wellbeing while promoting dignity and independence.
* Clinical Support: Help with observations, monitor wellbeing, report changes, support emergencies and therapeutic interventions, and maintain a calm, safe environment.
* End-of-Life Care: Provide dignified support, work with families and the team to ensure comfort and respect.
* Admissions & Discharges: Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and accurate documentation.
* Communication & Documentation: Engage with patients, families, and colleagues professionally; record information promptly.
* Teamwork & Patient Engagement: Collaborate with staff, support activities and therapeutic sessions, encourage engagement.
* Safety & Flexibility: Promote safety, follow safeguarding policies, report concerns, and work across wards as needed.
About You
Compassionate, adaptable, calm under pressure, good communicator, team-oriented, willing to learn. Relevant care experience is helpful but not essential; full training will be provided.
