This Post has arisen to maintain and support the development and expansion of diagnostic neuroradiology services within the Trust. Based in the Radiology Department and covering both the Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley District General Hospital, the position is permanent and offers the opportunity to join the regional neurosciences centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The adult Neurology department is staffed by 12 consultant neurologists, with two paediatric neurologists linking to Central Manchester Children’s Hospital. The Neurosurgery department is staffed by 12 consultant neurosurgeons, providing a comprehensive adult neurosurgical service. In this role you will provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service and support the nine existing neuroradiologists (four perform neuro-intervention) and two head and neck radiologists. Candidates wishing to work less than full-time hours are encouraged to apply; if appointed, the job plan will be discussed on an individual basis.
Responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive diagnostic neuroradiology service, supporting the nine existing neuroradiologists (four of whom perform neuro-intervention) and two head and neck radiologists, including reporting and MDT presentation.
* Play an active role in the planning, development and delivery of the neuro-radiology service for the Directorate and associated Network, and commit to teaching SPRs who rotate within the Trust.
* Support diagnostic neuroradiology colleagues in both inpatient and outpatient MRI/CT reporting, working closely with colleagues across the wider neurosciences and radiology departments as part of daily duties.
* Where possible, maintain a subspecialist interest in head and neck radiology; report cross-sectional head and neck imaging, participate in the network Thyroid and Head & Neck cancer MDTs and perform neck ultrasound and FNAs/core biopsies.
* Develop an interest in PET/CT imaging; support for PET/CT is encouraged.
* Provide support for local and network neuroradiology MDTs.
* Engage in a neuroradiology on-call rota with a 1:9 frequency, and pursue further development or maintenance of other subspecialist interests.
* Experience in head and neck radiology and advanced neuro-imaging techniques is highly desirable.
Qualifications
* Hold or be eligible for Consultant Grade and CCT within six months of interview.
