We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join a premier team of Recreation Specialists at the 100 Force Support Squadron, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, United Kingdom.

What will be your primary role?

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Outdoor Recreation manager in planning, implementing and administering an Outdoor Recreation program specifically for "adventure" program in accordance with Air Force Personnel Centre/Services Directorate standards. The program serves an overseas community comprising of active duty, authorized civilian employees, dependents, family members and retirees assigned to RAF Mildenhall and other adjacent bases, as permitted. This position is responsible for assisting in planning, developing, managing and maintaining an enhanced Outdoor Adventure Program which is diversified, working with the Outdoor Recreation Manager to manage the Appropriated and Non-Appropriated Funds and assets of the Outdoor Recreation Program, whilst serving as an assistant custodian for the Outdoor Recreation facilities. You will solicit volunteers and part-time paid services and provide guidance and trip leadership for Outdoor Recreation activities and participants.

To be successful for this position you much hold Undergraduate or Graduate education with the major field being general recreation, outdoor recreation, recreation and parks leadership, wild; and recreation management, natural resources recreation, youth recreation, public, urban or community recreation, special populations recreations (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.) or physical education.

OR

Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation.

What are the Key Skills required for this role?

1. Knowledge of a wide range of principles, concepts and techniques of Outdoor Recreation activities, sufficient to plan, organize and deliver Outdoor Recreation activities.

2. Practical experience of living and working outdoors to be able to provide an enhanced level of instructing, coaching, training and leadership, plus the ability to assess risk and ensure safe practices are followed in accordance with governing standard procedures.

3. Knowledge of local and regional natural resources to provide varied and interesting activity programs, while caring for the environment.

4. Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating Outdoor Recreation programs that meet the needs of the community.

5. Ability to work independently, to analyze problems and devise effective solutions to accomplish objectives.

6. Ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of people and age groups and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

What are the conditions of employment for this role?

1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.

2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and you may also be required to travel to the US or other country, in the performance of official duties or attend necessary training, this position may also be coded as mission essential.

3. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.

4. Overtime may be required, and you may be assigned other duties not included in this position description, but that are appropriate to the grade and skill set of the incumbent.

5. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

6. This position requires a UK category D+E driving license to be able to perform duties. Must have or be able to obtain within 6 months of employment. Failure to obtain the license within 6 months due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certification is due to circumstances outside the employee's control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe.

7. It is desired that the employee possess Outdoor Activity experience or interest in at least one of the following disciplines; biking, mountain biking canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding or back country hiking.

8. Work will require substantial travel away from the normal duty station using government owned vehicles.

9. You must hold or obtain certification in emergency first aid to include child and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 6 months of employment. Failure to complete the required certification within the 6 month period due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position. If failure to obtain certification is due to circumstances outside the employee's control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe.

10. A pre-employment physical will be required. The position involves physical exertion such as leading outdoor activities in climatic and seasonal variations and carrying/moving recreation apparatus and personal equipment for rescue.

11. This is an as rostered position working 5 out of 7 days, 37.5 hours per week. Start time and end time may be adjusted to fit mission requirements.
