We’re on the lookout for a Direct Mail and Database Programmer to join our established, Leeds-based multi‑channel marketing and design agency.

* Hybrid (min two days per week at our offices in Leeds, West Yorkshire)
Role Description
This is a full‑time role for a Direct Mail and Database Programmer, reporting directly to our CEO. The role can be worked on a hybrid basis with some flexibility to hours, and is office‑based in Leeds for a minimum of 2 days per week (our full‑team office days are currently Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Day‑to‑day, you will develop, manage, and support all data‑processing workflows required for the Telescope Group’s direct‑mail operations. This includes database development, address‑data preparation, secure data handling, system integrations, campaign support, and quality assurance.
Experience with AnaBase or similar software would be advantageous in this role (but not essential; training can be provided).

Key Responsibilities
Direct Mail Data Processing
* Develop, manage, and run workflows for data cleaning, deduplication, address validation, and mailsorting
* Produce accurate, print‑ready net data files for mailing houses and fulfilment suppliers
* Support high‑volume and bespoke processing required to meet client campaign schedules
* Manage secure data storage and transfers
* Maintain detailed documentation for all data‑processing steps
Database Development & Management
* Design, implement, and maintain client marketing databases
* Run regular database updates and develop procedures/strategies to increase program performance and/or data integrity
* Act as the primary point of contact for certain key clients, being the key liaison between the client, other internal teams and external suppliers where applicable; ensure maintenance of expected service levels for all projects
Compliance & Information Security
* Ensure all data‑handling activities fully comply with GDPR, including lawful processing, retention policies, subject‑rights requests, minimisation, and secure deletion.
* Align all workflows with ISO 27001 principles, including access control, incident reporting, encryption standards, confidentiality handling, and secure system configuration
* Support DPIAs, risk assessments, and audit preparation activities
* Maintain and manage controlled, secure processing environments
Operational & Cross‑Team Support
* Collaborate with marketing, production, IT, and data teams to fulfil campaign requirements
* Escalate workflow delays or issues promptly, ensuring project transparency and smooth delivery
* Provide technical support to colleagues, including during periods of team absence
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives covering efficiency, accuracy, and automation
Quality Control
* Validate outgoing data files to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with customer specifications
* Perform pre‑production checks for both yourself and the other members of the team to prevent errors in output files
* Maintain internal quality standards and align to the approved ISO 9001 procedures
Technical Skills
* Strong programming and relational‑database development skills
* Scripting experience
* Understanding of data‑quality and address‑standardisation principles
* Familiarity with file formats used in direct‑mail production
* Experience of system integrations via API or batch processes
Compliance & Security Skills
* Strong working knowledge of GDPR (processing, minimisation, retention, data‑rights fulfilment).
* Knowledge of UK postal and standard suppression files (Goneaway, Deceased etc.).
Soft Skills
* Excellent attention to detail when working with large datasets
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability
* Confident written and verbal communication with both technical and non‑technical colleagues
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
* Experience within direct‑mail production, mailing houses, or print‑related environments
* Understanding of ISO 27001 controls (access, audit logging, secure configuration, handling of personal data).
* Experience with postal‑address verification.
* AnaBase experience (highly advantageous)
