The role
As a Structural Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of some of the most complex and strategically important engineering challenges in the defence sector. This is a rare opportunity to directly influence the safety, performance and future capability of the UK submarine fleet.
Day-to-day, you’ll be part of the Naval Architecture and Outfitting Team, collaborating with Naval Architects, Structural Engineers and Designers to deliver innovative engineering solutions across a range of critical systems. Your work will support both in-service and next-generation platforms, making a real impact on national security and your own career development.
1. Monitoring system performance and supporting root cause analysis for technical issues or degradation
2. Delivering high-quality technical documentation, including reports, calculations and engineering drawings
3. Contributing to design activities for in-service modifications and capability upgrades
4. Supporting ship trials, dry dockings and refits to ensure successful implementation of engineering solutions
5. Collaborating with internal stakeholders (Design teams, Safety Engineers, Project Managers) and external stakeholders (MoD clients, dockyard operators, suppliers)
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with 2 days in the office/onsite and 3 days working from home.
Essential experience of the Structural Engineer
6. Marine, production or mechanical engineering experience
7. Proficiency in engineering tools and managing engineering projects from concept to completion
8. Skilled in systems engineering methodologies and integration of complex subsystems
9. Proven stakeholder engagement and management skills
10. Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Qualifications for the Structural Engineer
11. HNC or above in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related STEM discipline
12. Equivalent experience will also be considered
