Senior Growing Assistant - Suffolk - £38,000 – £55,000 - Accommodation Support + Benefits
The Job:
As a Senior Growing Assistant, you’ll work closely alongside an experienced Grower Manager, playing a key role in the day to day and strategic running of a large-scale soft fruit operation. There’s a strong emphasis on irrigation and climate control, ensuring crops are grown to consistently meet high supermarket standards for Class 1 fruit. This is a hands on position where you’ll be actively involved across both glasshouse and tunnel environments. You’ll support all aspects of the growing cycle from crop monitoring and feeding programmes to pest and disease management while also contributing to trials, innovation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Alongside the technical growing responsibilities, there’s a commercial focus too. You’ll help monitor inputs, analyse crop performance, and work towards improving yield, quality, and overall efficiency
The role also offers leadership exposure, giving you the opportunity to supervise and support team members, helping to build your management capability as you progress
The Candidate:
- Practical, proactive, and passionate about horticulture and crop production
- Previous experience within a commercial horticulture or fresh produce environment
- Ideally exposure to protected cropping systems
- Confident in a hands-on role and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable making decisions and taking initiative
- Keen to take on increasing responsibility and grow within the role
- Interest in irrigation strategy, climate control, and crop optimisation
- Strong communication skills, able to work closely with management and operational teams
- Previous experience supervising or mentoring others is advantageous
- Willingness to learn, develop, and continuously improve
- Ambitious, with a clear desire to progress towards a Grower or management position within a forward thinking business
The Package:
- Salary: £38,000 – £55,000 DOE
