In this Environmental Crime Officer role you will support the Lead Responsible Officers and you will help them in disrupting and dismantling organised crime groups using a 4P approach. You will work with subject matter specialists and partner agencies to achieve this.
This is a challenging & varied role. You will be assisting multi-agency operations, gathering evidence, undertaking overt and covert investigations, evidence gather and produce case files for court. This also includes delivering interventions to prevent, disrupt and enforce against those engaged in serious and organised crime.

As a national role, regular pre planned travel should be expected and occasional overnight stays will be required. The main enforcement hub is in Birmingham which you will need to attend occasionally in order to maintain the visibility of the unit, develop investigations or attend meetings.
The team
The Joint Unit for Waste Crime (JUWC) is a multi-agency taskforce. It works in partnership to tackle serious and organised crime in the UK waste industry.

Experience/skills Required
Your background will be in environmental regulation, intelligence-led enforcement or investigation – experience of working in collaboration with Partner Organisations such as the police, local authorities or other government agencies is highly relevant.
You will have experience of using intelligence products to identify potential lines of enquiry & an ability to manage hostile situations & the health and safety of yourself and others.
Essential:
A full UK drivers license is required.
The role is dependent on vetting being acquired to SC Security Clearance and NPPV2.
Desirable
Understanding and experience of working within an intelligence led environment, communicating with legal professionals, colleagues and partner enforcement Agencies.
The ideal candidate would have a good knowledge of the legislation which governs criminal waste investigations, such as for example the Environmental Permitting Regulations, the Environment Act, the PACE, CPIA and the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.

This is a hybrid role, with a base location at your local Environment Agency office.
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises.Further information on incident response can be found within the candidate pack.
