Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Remote (Must be UK based)
Salary: £45,000 - £60,000
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
My client is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly dynamic engineering environment focused on the development of cutting-edge deck hardware systems. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, high-performance solutions, working closely with an experienced Head of Design and a team with backgrounds in High volume and technical engineering, including racing and the marine sector.
This position offers genuine ownership across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through to final installation, within a collaborative and fast-paced engineering team.
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead and contribute to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems. You will be responsible for driving projects from concept through to manufacture, ensuring high-quality engineering standards and practical, manufacturable designs.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate closely with the Head of Design to develop new products and expand existing product ranges
Lead both new and existing projects, taking ownership of the full design lifecycle
Design and deliver mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to production
Produce high-quality 3D CAD models and fully defined 2D engineering drawings
Apply GD&T principles and appropriate tolerancing strategies to ensure manufacturability and reliable assembly
Perform hand calculations and/or FEA to validate and support design decisions
Work directly with production teams, incorporating Design for Manufacture feedback in real time
Support prototype builds and testing activitiesKey Expectations

Rapid Iteration: Work efficiently through design, review, and refinement cycles

Person Specification
Essential:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Typically 3–5+ years of experience within a high-performance engineering environment
Strong 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawing capability
Excellent understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and mechanical assembly design
High level of attention to detail in design and drafting
Comfortable working across the full design lifecycle from concept through to manufacture
Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced setting with evolving prioritiesDesirable:
Experience within sectors such as motorsport, aerospace, or marine engineering
Strong understanding of material properties
