About the Role: We are looking for an experienced and motivated Principal Street Works Engineer to lead our Street Works team, ensuring the effective coordination, regulation, and monitoring of all activities on the public highway. The role focuses on minimising disruption, maintaining safety, and ensuring full compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (NRSWA), Traffic Management Act (TMA), and related legislation.
About You: We require the following experience and knowledge:
* Proven experience in street works management.
* Strong working knowledge of NRSWA, TMA, DfT Permit Scheme guidance, and relevant Codes of Practice.
* Experience managing a team, providing leadership, motivation, and performance management.
* Demonstrable experience working with utility companies, contractors, and stakeholders.
* Awareness of the impacts of road works on different types of road users and how those impacts can be mitigated.
Skills: Excellent leadership, communication, and people‑management skills; strong understanding of highway operations, network management, and permitting processes; ability to interpret legislation, technical guidance, and policy; high level of organisation, ability to balance competing priorities; confident decision‑maker, proactive risk management; open to innovation and continuous improvement; ability to build effective relationships and negotiate with internal and external partners.
