Overview
As part of the recruitment process for a bailiff vacancy, we share interview questions in advance to help candidates prepare. If you are selected for interview, you will receive questions related to assessed behaviours when you are notified to book your interview slot. Strengths-based questions will not be shared in advance. This role is within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) and involves visiting people in their homes and businesses, providing information on options to resolve matters, and upholding respectful, empathetic service to court users.

Role profile
You will be an excellent communicator, able to swiftly assess circumstances, adapt, and lead in emotionally charged situations. You should be able to plan your days to manage workload while remaining adaptable. You will explain why you are visiting and what options are available, and you must demonstrate empathy, be non-judgmental, and respectful to customers while carrying out your role.
Work environment and training
You will receive full bailiff training, including training on Court Management systems, followed by mentoring from an experienced colleague while in the field. This role offers hybrid working where business needs allow. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles may not be suitable for hybrid working. Arrangements will be discussed and reviewed with the successful candidate(s).
Eligibility and sponsorship
Standard full-time hours are 37 per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible, and job-sharing patterns where they meet role demands and business needs. For part-time applications, the minimum hours are 30 per week over 5 days. This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker sponsorship unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously since before 22 July 2025; eligibility will be assessed in line with immigration rules and transitional provisions. You must have legal right to live and work in the United Kingdom.

* A road-worthy vehicle is essential for the role.
