Job Description
We are seeking a Manager to lead our Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals. As ECU Manager you will be the strategic lead for the way we manage financial investigations ensuring we are fulfilling our obligations under the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will be proactive with a strong focus on continually improving the way we work.
You’ll manage two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer. You will provide strong leadership, motivate and develop your team, and manage performance and work delivery.
The role requires collaboration with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC). You’ll influence at a senior level to ensure the Environment Agency’s priorities are supported and recognised by other enforcement agencies.
Alongside ECU duties, you will support the wider organisation in improving how we work and increasing understanding of POCA. You will share lessons learned, input into changes to technical documentation and advise enforcement officers across the country.
The Team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams – the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigations Team. These teams include Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and works with enforcement staff and partners across the country to address serious and complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience/Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team. You will have a good understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act.
* Experience in the law enforcement sector with an understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication including delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Ability to identify areas for improvement and lead changes to working practices.
* Experience in developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.
Contact and Additional Information
This is a hybrid working role with flexible arrangements from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties is required. Incident response is a central part of the role, and you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident (this may attract an additional payment).
