Overview

Specialist Healthcare Passenger Assistants (x5) wanted to join Harrow and Brent Special Needs Transport (HBSNT). This is not a standard passenger assistant role; you will be the clinical expert on board, providing emergency care and reassurance to children and vulnerable adults with complex health needs during transport to and from educational settings. This is a term-time, flexible role requiring specialist clinical skills including emergency medication administration, suction care, and communication with non-verbal service users (BSL).


Main duties of the job

* Ensure the clinical safety and wellbeing of vulnerable passengers during their journey as the designated specialist on board.

* Administer emergency medication (including Buccal Midazolam) to passengers experiencing seizures.

* Provide specialist care for individuals with severe epilepsy and perform emergency suction procedures as required.

* Utilise British Sign Language (BSL) to communicate effectively with non-verbal passengers.

* Work collaboratively with a dedicated driver and other passenger assistants to manage routes.

* Adhere to individual healthcare plans and protocols to deliver consistent, high-quality care.

* Utilise training in Physical Intervention and Positive Handling to safely manage challenging behaviours when required.

Job responsibilities


Qualifications

* Certified training in the Administration of Emergency Medication including Buccal Midazolam.
* Proven competence in Severe Epilepsy Care and Emergency Suction Care.
* Certification in British Sign Language (BSL).
* Current training in Physical Intervention and Dealing with Challenging Behaviour.
* Current First Aid & Anaphylaxis certificate (e.g., Red Cross or St John Ambulance).
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure.
* Compassionate, patient, and proactive approach to care.
