Overview
Senior Electrical Engineer opportunity in the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team. The role focuses on high, medium, low and extra-low voltage electrical systems and equipment, with expertise in control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems being advantageous. You will influence and shape how we deliver our service and provide technical engineering leadership to ensure safe, reliable and sustainable assets and progress towards net zero carbon.
You will be part of a team that manages, develops and maintains electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for electrical systems and equipment across assets such as pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
Responsibilities
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for staff managing or working on electrical systems and equipment.
* Provide technical leadership and support to the organisation as part of the Technical Authority.
* Hold a national incident response role which may be during normal or out-of-hours.
* Contribute to the management of electrical standards and policies, including HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets.
Experience/Skills Required
* A good working knowledge of the Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* A good working knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in the development and delivery of safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Experience in testing, isolation and proving dead of electrical systems.
* Strong understanding of risk-based maintenance philosophies and processes, including FMEA and reliability concepts.
* Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Qualifications and requirements
* UK Driving licence (role-specific).
* Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and either Chartered Engineer status with the UK Engineering Council or demonstrated progress toward registration with evidence of a realistic prospect of registration within 12 months.

This is a hybrid role with a base location near your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. Interviews will be held via MS Teams within three weeks of the closing date.
