Total Geomatics Ltd have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Geospatial Survey Technician. Assisting a surveyor in undertaking surveys and producing drawings to a set standard. Geospatial survey technician Level 3 (A level).

Salary: £14,526.20 to £23,492.04, depending on your age.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work

* Assisting the surveyor onsite at client premises with calculating land/building measurements
* Using the latest survey technology to assist the surveyor by operating the Total Station (Theodolite), GPS, and/or Scanner
* Checking surveyors' calculations
* Responsible for checking the surveyors kit before and after jobs i.e. ensure batteries are fully charged
* Set up and operate equipment under the guidance of a surveyor on-site
* Knock in pegs, pins and lift manholes when appropriate
* Prepare the vehicle before leaving to go on site
* Load and unload all necessary equipment into and out of the company vehicles (checking all equipment taken, returns to the kit room)
* Loading information onto the system
* Process surveys under the guidance of a surveyor
* Undertake setting out under the guidance of a surveyor on site
* Maintain and clean all pieces of equipment and vehicles on return from the site and highlight any equipment issues to the Surveyor
* File contract files when required and fill in job site information on the database
* Complete all site risk assessments
* Ensure that all quality control procedures are carried out on-site and in the development of a survey
* Follow procedures in accordance with our ISO certification, learning about the importance of health & safety and quality and accuracy within the business, as well as the environmental impact of the company
* Office time will be used to learn how to use software such as LSS, AutoCAD, and other relevant software and to assist the surveyor in producing technical drawings
* Undertake any other duties appropriate to the post as required by the Surveyor Team


Training

Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.

* Comply with health and safety regulations
* Plan and prepare Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) and report any additional controls required
* Select and use personal protective equipment (PPE)
* Carry out adjustment checks on survey equipment
* Interpret information from client drawings and specifications
* Gather and interpret information from a range of sources
* Communicate with others verbally, for example colleagues and stakeholders
* Plan surveys selecting survey equipment for a project according to the client's specification
* Planning routes to existing and new sites
* Establish a survey control on site for example using total station, GNSS or levels
* Use setting out engineering equipment and techniques, for example measuring tapes and string, distances and bearings, total station using co-ordinates to peg out co-ordinates, grid lines and off sets
* Use survey equipment, for example total stations, levels, laser scanners, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) using geodetic parameters
* Capture and record geospatial survey data, for example topographic, river sections, drainage invert surveys, volumetric calculations, as-built surveys and measured building surveys
* Select and use surveying processing software for processing data into either 2D or 3D drawing's or 3D models
* Produce geospatial survey reports using computer software
* Apply quality assurance procedures: site work, drawing, model or report
* Manage time and tasks to meet project deadlines
* Comply with relevant industry legislation and regulations when undertaking geospatial work
* Communicate in writing with others, for example internal and external customers, colleagues, and managers
* Comply with environmental, social, human and economic sustainability regulations and requirements, for example safe disposal of waste, re-cycling or re-use of materials, efficient use of resources, contributing to the community, volunteering within the geospatial industry


Requirements

GCSE in Maths (grade 9-4 / A-C). Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

It is a variable working environment a mix between site/outside and office computer work. Working in all weathers on occasion.

Possibility of a permanent role for the right candidate upon successful completion of the apprenticeship should an opportunity be available.
