This position contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago ("BZC") by responding to calls from employees and guests for emergency and routine assistance, ensuring a positive, safe, and extraordinary guest experience under the direction of the Police Operations Lieutenant or, in their absence, the Sergeant on duty.
The work schedule is approximately 20 hours per week, with rotating days off, varied starting times, including weekends and holidays, and schedule adjustments due to special events or operational needs. Valid Emergency Medical Technician certification and a driver's license are required.
This is a seasonal, non-union hourly position, grade SEA02, with an expected hourly wage range of $19.58 to $20.52. For benefits information, please refer to our Benefits Table or the benefits details provided below after the job description.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
1. Operate the Public Safety communication center, answer calls promptly, dispatch police units, and maintain incident records.
2. Provide emergency medical assistance, perform ambulance duties, and complete necessary reports.
3. Coordinate communications with municipal agencies during emergencies and non-emergencies.
4. Maintain the Lost and Found service for guests and staff.
5. Monitor weather and fire alarm systems, notify managers of issues.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Specifications:
* One year of college related to Public Safety or two years of equivalent experience; high school diploma or GED required.
* Valid EMT certification, with ongoing continuing education.
* Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and effectively.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
* Clear communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
* Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
* Self-motivated with good organizational skills.
* Strong customer service orientation.
* Cultural competency and ability to work with diverse audiences.
* Valid driver's license required at hire; Illinois residents must obtain Illinois license within 90 days if not already possessed.
Desirable/Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience in police/EMS dispatching and public interaction preferred.
* Multilingual skills, especially Spanish, are a plus.
