The Role
Leverndale/Dykebar Hospital requires Mechanical Maintenance Technicians to join the Estates team to carry out reactive and planned preventive maintenance across the hospital campus. Candidates must be a time‑served mechanical engineer, qualified to HNC level (or currently working toward this qualification), with post apprenticeship experience. The post holder will be responsible for specialist technical services across building services disciplines, including AC systems, hot water systems, ventilation equipment, pressure systems and medical gas systems, and will assist with training and education of apprentices and adult trainees.
Location, Duration and Working Pattern
* Location: Leverndale Hospital and Dykebar Hospital
* Contract: Permanent
* Hours: Full‑time, 36 hours per week
* Shift Pattern: Day shifts Monday to Friday
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a safe and comfortable environment for the provision of clinical care.
* Install and commission machinery using installation manuals, ensuring compliance with health, safety, statutory regulations.
* Interpret detailed manufacturer installation manuals, specifications, technical data, wiring diagrams and schematic drawings for building services, systems, plant and equipment.
* Complete planned preventative maintenance in accordance with organisational and manufacturer recommendations, using appropriate tools, test equipment and recording details of work carried out, to prevent breakdowns and maintain optimal operational ability.
* Respond to breakdowns, evaluate the situation and take corrective action to ensure minimal disruption and damage.
* Use Building Management System (BMS) to set parameters, record data on building services and provide early warning of faults (medical gas, heating, water, power).
* Perform fault finding and analysis within complex control systems and equipment safely and effectively.
* Inspect, test and verify fixed wiring systems in statutory compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations and the current guidance note (BS 7671 17th Edition).
Qualifications and Experience
* Served a recognised apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or Plumbing (equivalent to SVQ Level 4, Higher National Diploma, Modern Apprenticeship – Level 4).
* Knowledge of procedures for mechanical and gas maintenance and repair of electrical equipment; BTEC/HNC Level or City and Guilds plus relevant post‑apprenticeship training or equivalent experience.
* Have undertaken specialised training in systems and equipment, including Low Voltage SHTM 06‑02, BS 7671 IEE wiring regulations, first aid for working with electricity, and Level 3 C & G 2391 Award in inspection, testing and verification of fixed wiring.
* Hold Level 3 Awards in In‑Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (PAT).
