Overview

Receptionist position at Hinckley And Bosworth Medical Alliance Ltd in Hinckley. The closing date is 07 November 2025.

The role is for 16.5 hours per week, on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 1:00 pm and 6:30 pm. The role is not suitable for those requiring a visa.


Main duties of the job

The primary purpose of the role is to greet patients and visitors, answer telephone calls, use the clinical system and other software programmes to make appointments, deal with test results and to signpost patients to the most appropriate service for their need (e.g. Pharmacists, Physio, Self Care or Social Prescriber).

You will respond to tasks from clinical and non-clinical staff, liaise with external community services and emergency services, and provide general administration. The appointee will proactively communicate information between relevant patients, doctors and professionals.


About us

The Centre Surgery in Hinckley, Leicestershire has a patient population of approximately 5,500 patients and is part of Hinckley Central PCN.


Job responsibilities

Describe the role and duties such as greeting patients, answering calls, using the computerised system to book appointments, handling test results and signposting to appropriate services (Pharmacists, Physio, Self Care, Social Prescriber). Respond to tasks from clinical and non-clinical staff, liaise with external community services and emergency services, and provide general administration. Proactively communicate information between patients, doctors and professionals.

KEY RESULT AREAS:

* Deliver a quality reception service, handling general enquiries, booking or cancelling appointments, and logging accurate information such as visit requests.
* Facilitate efficient lines of communication between patients and clinicians to help the practice run efficiently.
* Provide a first point of contact for patients’ queries where appropriate.
* Handle patient appointment requests and home visits in line with Practice policy.
* Maintain a safe, tidy reception area, waiting area and consulting rooms; update posters as needed (e.g., DNA poster).
* Undertake start and end of day procedures in line with practice policies; ensure premises are prepared for clinical staff and secured after use; observe confidentiality at all times.
* Promote and register patients for online services.
* Prepare repeat prescriptions within the Practice’s prescribing policy and guidelines.
* Maintain patients’ manual records in good repair and order.
* Use GP clinical systems and linked software to update and store data in line with policy; ensure records are up to date for clinical staff.
* Perform clerical duties (e.g., sending standard letters, organising transport, completing lab forms) to support the practice team.
* Use and amend the computerised appointment system as appropriate; retrieve information from computer and manual systems.
* Work within Practice policies and guidelines and contribute to policy changes as appropriate.
* Provide cover for colleagues in case of sickness or absence where possible.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* GCSE Mathematics & English (C or above)


Knowledge

* Understanding of a General Practice Reception environment
* SystmOne (computerised medical records system)


Experience

* Experience of working with others
* Experience of using own initiative and multi-tasking
* Experience in excellent customer service and liaison
* Experience in a General Practice Reception environment
