ENS are recruiting for a Band 7 Specialist Pharmacist for Emergency medicine You will be joining our large team of specialist clinical pharmacists supported by a clinical team that consists of more than 100 staff that is a combination of pharmacists, technicians and clinical assistants. Emergency Specialist Clinical Pharmacist Role specific duties The post holder will provide high quality advanced clinical pharmacy services to the Emergency department. This includes managing complex patients, supporting the 2 pharmacy technicians working in Emergency department and policy development for the specialist area. In addition, there will be opportunity to do quality improvement project on improving the prescribing for the care group. The post holder will participate as part of the multi-disciplinary team in Emergency Department to support consistent and effective medicines optimisation. This will include monthly attendance to the care group governance meeting and medication safety meeting. The post holder will also have a commitment to the core services such as dispensary cover, extended hours service on acute medical floor and on call as well as contributing to a comprehensive clinical pharmacy in Acute and Emergency Medicine The Emergency Specialist Clinical Pharmacist will be a line manager and/or mentor to junior pharmacy staff and will be encouraged to participate in audit, project work and completion of Non-Medical Prescribing. Clinical Practice · Provide a patient focused clinical service · Demonstrate and apply the principals of effective medicines optimisation as part of day to day activities · To identify and address any medication safety concerns within their clinical area. · Escalating when needed to senior clinical pharmacy staff · Effective contribution to the MDT to which the post holder is assigned as a clinical pharmacist · Make appropriate referrals as part of effective medicines optimisation demonstrating excellent clinical reasoning and judgement · To ensure effective clinical handover to other members of the MDT and beyond in supporting safe patient care. · To support and develop the clinical pharmacy service · In all aspects of the role to follow legal, ethical, professional and employers’ codes of conduct. Leadership · To act as a role model for all pharmacy staff and specifically for junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists · To promote effective clinical pharmacy services as part of the MDT/service to which the post holder is assigned · To review practices and make suggestions for improvements in services. · Implement these changes in practice. · To promote, develop and share best practice. · To implement agreed clinical governance initiatives. · To develop clinical pharmacy services in line with local and national objectives. · To work collaboratively with the whole healthcare team to deliver high quality services. · Provide leadership to pharmacy teams at weekends Management of service · To provide clinical pharmacy in accordance with Trust procedures and priorities set by the Advanced Pharmacist in Acute Medicine or the Lead Clinical Services Pharmacist. · Lead daily service delivery. · To identify and manage risks in relation to medicines use according to policy/protocol. · To delegate duties / responsibilities appropriately to junior staff. · Identify service risks and manage or escalate the risks as appropriate · To provide evaluated pharmaceutical and financial information in accordance with the needs of the Urgent and Emergency Care directorate. · To identify changes in prescribing practices that may impact on the drugs budget and propose appropriate actions thereafter · To implement and monitor the recommendations of the EKHUFT drug formulary and other Trust clinical policies related to drug usage. · To participate in CQUIN and or QIPP related projects as appropriate Evaluation of Service · To monitor pharmacy services in order to ensure safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines. · To participate in pharmacy contribution audits. · To undertake and propose clinical and service audits as needed. · To be responsible developing effective action planning as part of the cycle of audit · To undertake medication assessments / evaluations as required. Research and Service Development · To demonstrate a critical approach towards pharmacy practice in emergency medicine. · To review research evidence and integrate into practice, sharing this knowledge as needed both within and outside of the Trust. · To actively seek to improve the ward and clinical services provided. · To undertake practice research in accordance with the pharmacy research agenda. · To assist with the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate projects. Education and Training · To develop the necessary knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a highly specialist pharmacist. · Assess own performance using the Advanced Level framework and use this to identify training needs. · Adhere to GPhC CPD standards · Complete objectives set by line manager and reflect on performance in these tasks. · To be a practice supervisor for Foundation Pharmacists and Pre –registration Pharmacists as appropriate. · To provide effective supervision of junior staff and provide effective feedback to them on their performance · After suitable training to be an educational supervisor for pre-registration pharmacists. · To contribute to training of other healthcare professionals including direct delivery of teaching as needed. · Attend national and international conferences and present posters on aspects of pharmacy service as appropriate. · To participate in in-service clinical pharmacy teaching and multi-disciplinary teaching as appropriate. Other duties · To ensure safe and appropriate storage of medicinal products in pharmacy and clinical areas. · To attend and contribute to pharmacy clinical and departmental meetings. · To provide dispensary pharmacist cover as required usually for 4 hours each week, acting as ‘The Responsible Pharmacist’ when required. · To provide cover to other areas of the pharmacy department should the need arise to cover for staff absence. · To participate in the out of hour on-call service. · To take part in weekend, bank holiday and late duty services. · Daily hours are adjusted to provide for an average of 37.5 hours per week Your commitments We are focused on providing outstanding, safe patient care, and a positive working culture that benefits staff and patients alike.
