Overview
St Albans Cathedral is seeking to appoint a new Architect to support and guide the Chapter in its care for and conservation of the fabric of the Cathedral on a five-year term, with the potential to extend. The Cathedral Architect acts as the professional technical advisor to Chapter on all matters for which it has statutory and non‑statutory architectural responsibility as required under The Cathedrals Measure 2021.
Responsibilities
* Act as the professional technical advisor to Chapter on all matters for which it has statutory and non‑statutory architectural responsibility.
* Support the conservation and repair of historic buildings, including church repairs and re‑ordering.
* Provide expertise on liturgical, mission and other purposes of a Cathedral.
* Co‑ordinate with the current Architect on handover time in January 2026.
Qualifications
* Strong technical skill set with proven experience in the conservation and repair of historic buildings.
* Experience of church repairs and re‑ordering.
* Professional conservation accreditation.
* Developed understanding of the liturgical, mission and other purposes of a Cathedral.

Following interview, the successful candidate will be appointed to start 1 January 2026. Appropriate handover time in January with the current Architect will be agreed upon appointment.
