Hearing Dogs for Deaf People has been creating life-changing partnerships between hearing dogs and deaf recipients since 1982. As well as acting as an ear to their partners and alerting them to sounds, the charity’s clever and expertly trained dogs help deaf people to live life with confidence and independence, whilst providing love, companionship and emotional support. Following on from a strategic review, the charity is now looking to build a new Income Generation Directorate, to enable them to transform many more lives across the UK. The Head of Commercial will play a central role in this growth, helping Hearing Dogs deliver their goals to diversify income and expand their philanthropic and commercial programmes. The position of Head of Commercial is a strategic role within the new team, looking beyond traditional fundraising and identifying commercially viable opportunities that can deliver both financial return and social impact, whilst aligning with the charity’s mission and values. Working across departments within the organisation, the post-holder will seek and assess the viability of areas of work for commercial income generation, developing pilot projects and reviewing existing commercial activity at Hearing Dogs, as well as the actions required to increase profitability. The successful candidate will have proven experience in commercial development, business planning or innovation in a charity, social enterprise or private sector organisation. They will also have demonstrable success in scoping new products or services and developing robust business cases. Strong commercial acumen will be a must, alongside a strategic mindset and an entrepreneurial approach. Finally, they will possess excellent analytical, financial modelling and project management skills, as well as being a confident communicator able to influence senior stakeholders and make the case for investment. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a high-impact commercial function at a moment of transformational growth for the charity, with the flexibility of working remotely or spending time at Hearing Dogs’ stunning bases in Buckinghamshire or Yorkshire, with friendly and passionate staff and their four-legged friends.
