University Assistant/Associate Professor in the Mathematics of Information

Applications are invited for a University Assistant/Associate Professorship in the Mathematics of Information, to be held in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) to commence in September 2026 or shortly thereafter.

Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent and be able to demonstrate an outstanding research track record in the area of Mathematics of Information, broadly interpreted. Applications are particularly encouraged from those with an innovative and ambitious research agenda that would complement and extend DAMTP's strengths in Mathematical Imaging. They will be expected to investigate new areas of research, seek out new funding opportunities, and submit grant applications. Moreover, they will be required to write papers for publication, attend conferences, network with national and international colleagues and give presentations.

An ability to contribute substantially to teaching in the Mathematical Tripos is essential and perform other usual departmental duties such as those associated with examinations. The appointed candidate will also be expected to be able to contribute to masters-level teaching, ideally including our MPhil in Data Intensive Science.

Appointment will be made at an appropriate point on the scale for University Assistant or Associate Professors. Appointment as an Assistant Professor will normally be for a probationary period of five years with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance. Appointment as Associate Professor will typically require a demonstrable history of exceptional achievement.
