Overview
Do you have excellent listening skills, enjoy solving problems and genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of others supporting people in mental health crisis? The Mental Health Advisor role supports patients via NHS 111, option 2 for mental health, across the Durham Tees Valley area. You will be the first point of contact for people who are struggling with their mental health, provide reassurance, basic advice and health information to callers, and direct them to the appropriate level of care.
Responsibilities
* Be the first point of contact for patients contacting NHS 111 with urgent mental health needs, 24/7.
* Use screening pathways to record demographics and clinical information to assess condition and direct to appropriate professional or service.
* Deliver high quality, safe and clinically effective healthcare over the telephone following relevant pathways.
* Collaborate with partner agencies to support onward care and refer into secondary care services when needed (e.g., Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams).
* Provide compassionate, empathetic support to patients and carers and promote a positive image of people with mental health conditions.
* Work as part of a team with ongoing training and development.
Qualifications and requirements
* Right to Work in the UK. Sponsorship may be available via Health and Care Worker or Skilled Worker visa where eligible; otherwise sponsorship not guaranteed.
* Experience in mental health or customer service is desirable but not required; full training provided on calls, crisis support, and systems.
* Resilience, adaptability, empathy, and the ability to work in a fast-changing environment.
