At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission‑critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting‑edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Your Impact
Building Surveying at Jacobs sits within our Cities & Places business unit – a multidisciplinary environment where engineers, architects, surveyors, designers, place‑makers, project managers and transport planners collaborate to deliver coordinated, value‑driven solutions for clients across the UK and internationally. From advisory and consulting through feasibility, planning, design, programme delivery and lifecycle asset management, we’re helping create a more connected and sustainable world.
We’re seeking an experienced Associate Director (Building Surveying) to join our UK team in either Glasgow, Leeds, Birmingham or Manchester locations.
This role plays a key part in delivering a diverse mix of building surveying services across commercial, industrial and public‑sector assets for clients spanning transport infrastructure, aviation, commercial development, healthcare, education, residential, industrial and mixed‑use environments.
This is a chance to join a collaborative workplace with a strong, established client base and a varied project portfolio – working alongside highly respected specialists across the business while shaping the growth of our regional building surveying offering.
We’re looking for a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) who can bring real depth, insight and leadership to our multidisciplinary teams.
Drawing on broad, multi‑sector project experience, you’ll add immediate value through your strong contractual and technical capability – confidently leading major workstreams such as large‑scale condition surveys and fire‑safety remediation programmes.
Your ability to prepare and review specifications, tender documentation and design information, alongside producing high‑quality technical reports – from condition surveys and options appraisals to heritage statements, due‑diligence outputs and RIBA Stage 2/3 contributions – will help us deliver clarity, rigour and assured outcomes for our clients.
Your sound understanding of current UK construction requirements, as well as health and safety legislation, will strengthen the technical integrity of our work and support informed decision‑making across a wide range of assets and sectors.
Just as importantly, you’ll play a key role in shaping the next generation of talent. With a genuine commitment to developing and supporting junior colleagues – and ideally experience as an APC supervisor, counsellor or assessor – you’ll help guide our early‑career professionals as they progress through their training and build their confidence, capability and professional identity.
You’ll also bring strong client‑facing instincts: the ability to build trusted relationships through professional, timely and proactive communication. Your experience influencing and growing workstreams will help us expand our presence across the Scottish regions and wider UK, contributing to proposals, fees and client presentations that showcase the value and expertise of our team.
Whether preparing bid documentation, supporting business development or strengthening long‑term client partnerships, you’ll play a visible role in shaping our regional growth and service excellence.
