Job Purpose
You will make a leading contribution to the MicMac project, conducting policy-relevant research with Dr Kopasker, Prof Katikireddi, and Dr Pearce, using secondary data to estimate health effects and applying the SimPaths microsimulation model to assess long-term impacts of income support policies. You will contribute to publications and proposals and help manage the project.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan and conduct assigned research in line with project deliverables and research strategy.
* Document research outputs, data interpretation, maintain records and databases, and draft technical reports and papers.
* Develop your research profile and contribute to publications in high-quality journals; enhance research impact.
* Present work at international and national conferences, seminars, and workshops.
* Identify potential funding sources and assist in developing proposals to secure funding.
* Collaborate with colleagues and participate in meetings and seminars across the group/university.
* Supervise and train undergraduate and postgraduate students and junior team members as appropriate.
* Carry out administrative tasks related to the research group and School, including budgets/expenditure.
* Carry out modest teaching activities as assigned.
* Keep up to date with advancements; engage in continuing professional development.
* Undertake other duties as assigned.
* Contribute to the University’s international profile in line with strategic plan.
* For Grade 7 appointment: Perform duties with greater independence, leadership, and responsibility, including planning, funding, collaboration, publishing, and mentoring.
Qualifications
Essential:
* A1 SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in a relevant subject or equivalent.
* A2 Specialist knowledge of quantitative methods in econometrics or epidemiology.
* For Grade 7: normally PhD (SCQF level 12) with track record of independence, or equivalent qualifications/experience.
Desirable:
* B1 An awarded or near-completed PhD in subject area or equivalent.
* C1 Skills in applied quantitative methods (econometrics/epidemiology).
* C2 Research creativity and collaboration with qualitative researchers and patient/public involvement.
* C3 Excellent communication skills; ability to present complex data clearly.
* C4 Interpersonal skills and teamwork.
* C5 Workload/budget/people management skills.
* C6 IT and data analysis skills; proficiency in R, Stata, or SAS.
* C7 Self-motivation and independence.
* C8 Problem solving and flexible approach.
* C9 Knowledge of causal inference methods (Grade 7).
* C10 Postdoctoral experience (Grade 7) or equivalent.
Experience
* Essential: relevant research experience; experience with quantitative methods; scientific writing; ability to deliver quality outputs; publication track record.
* For Grade 7: leadership in research activities; independent research experience.
Desirable
* Emerging national/international reputation; experience in health inequalities; experience with causal analyses (time-varying confounding).
