Livestock Ranger / Ceidwad Da Byw - Narbeth Summary Important notice In line with our redeployment policy, we’ll prioritise applications from employees who are under formal notice of redundancy. We’re looking for a Livestock Ranger to support our conservation grazing projects across Pembrokeshire. You’ll be joining an experienced, conservation focused team based in North Pembrokeshire, working out of Ysgubor Fawr Basecamp, Mathry and Southwood Farm, Newgale. You'll be part of the on-call rota to provide evening and weekend Ranger cover for the countryside properties in Pembrokeshire. Internally you'll be known as 'Farm Worker'. Hysbysiad pwysig Yn unol ’n polisi adleoli, byddwn yn rhoi blaenoriaeth i ymgeiswyr sydd ‘dan rybudd dileu swydd’ ffurfiol. To view the rest of the advert in Welsh, please see attached document. What it's like to work here Pembrokeshire's coast and countryside is naturally spectacular and culturally rich; we look after 60 miles of coastline and manage over 4,000ha of land, from the large estates of Stackpole and Colby in the south, to the windswept farms, commons, and cliffs in the north. Our home farm is based at the Southwood Estate, where we manage a breeding herd of Welsh Black cattle and a handful of Welsh Mountain ponies across hundreds of ‘wilding’ acres. Offspring from the breeding cattle, together with an additional mobile non-breeding pony herd, are used to conservation graze our most important coast and common habitats across the portfolio. What you'll be doing You’ll be joining a team of eleven rangers across Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen Bay, but you’ll have a day-to-day focus in North Pembrokeshire. Livestock farming will be at the heart of your role; cattle and ponies might be complimented in the future with pigs and goats. You'll be hands-on and implementing grazing strategies across a range of habitats, ensuring the good health of the livestock and the land. You’ll be responsible for daily animal checks, weekly handling, and monthly transfers across multiple designated and non-designated sites. You'll also have the opportunity to take the lead on implementing a volunteer ‘livestock checkers’ group; engaging with the public about our work and working flexibly to be more productive. From time-to-time you’ll liaise with contractors; undertake habitat management operations and countryside maintenance tasks; whilst always keeping records and helping to maintain machinery and vehicles. You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
