Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to provide leadership to the Hazardous Waste team, overseeing daily activities and supporting regulatory reform efforts. The role involves transitioning the regime from reform to ‘business as usual’.
The duties and responsibilities include:
1. Waste classification technical leadership
2. Technical leadership for Hazardous Waste compliance and initiatives to improve compliance
3. Leadership of priority waste streams
4. Providing technical support on priority waste streams to area and national teams
5. Addressing regulatory challenges, improving the regulatory regime, and supporting Defra's circular economy work
6. Enforcement focus to support actions in the control strategy to reduce offending
The team
The Environment & Business (E&B) Hazardous Waste team is a small, high-performing team within the Regime Regulation team of E&B Waste Regulation. We support government, industry, and colleagues to ensure hazardous waste is managed correctly. We foster a positive, inclusive culture that values everyone, using evidence, expertise, engagement, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation.

The role is based at an EA Office location with flexible/hybrid working arrangements. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
