Overview
Our General Insurance team at DWF provides expertise in Casualty, Disease, Criminal Defence, EL/PL & RTA. We are seeking a Junior Solicitor, Solicitor, or Senior Paralegal to handle a varied caseload of litigated personal injury defender cases, under the supervision of Lynne Macfarlane, Partner and Solicitor Advocate.
We look for a Junior Solicitor or experienced Paralegal with experience of dealing with personal injury litigation, preferably in defender but we will also consider pursuer experience for the right candidate.
The main priority is to find someone who can deal with a mixed defender caseload comprising motor, employers liability (EL) and public liability (PL) cases, raised at summary cause, ordinary sheriff court and Court of Session level. Their skill set involves reviewing evidence and quickly progressing the case to the end point, either settlement or proof, in line with client service level agreements.
Responsibilities
* Work with partners to manage a caseload of high‑value claims, comprising a variety of defender EL/PL & RTA matters.
* Draft pleadings, reports to clients, attend court hearings, meet court deadlines, progress liability investigations, gather evidence, instruct experts and consider medical causation issues.
* Prioritise work effectively and maximise efficiency in working practices, adhering to court deadlines and directions, and the client’s service level agreements.
* Build working relationships internally and externally to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm’s directions and client needs.
Qualifications & Experience
* 1 year PQE, preferably within Casualty, Disease, EL/PL, RTA or personal and serious injury.
* Experience for NQers with an interest and experience in these areas.
* Technical experience and a real interest in Employers Liability, Public Liability, RTA and catastrophic injury work.
* Experience handling high‑value defender personal injury files either independently or as an assistant to more senior team members.
* Familiarity with working in a commercial environment.
